Plant Care Guide

Essential tips to help your plants thrive

Care Essentials

Light Requirements

Different plants have varying light needs. Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near windows with sheer curtains or a few feet away from direct sunlight. Low-light plants like pothos and snake plants can thrive in darker corners.

Watering Tips

Overwatering is the most common cause of houseplant problems. Check the soil moisture before watering—stick your finger an inch into the soil. If it's dry, water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom. Most plants prefer to dry out slightly between waterings.

Temperature & Humidity

Most houseplants prefer temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Avoid placing plants near cold drafts or heating vents. Tropical plants often appreciate higher humidity—consider using a humidifier or placing a tray of water with pebbles nearby.

Fertilizing

Feed your plants during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Reduce or stop fertilizing in fall and winter when growth slows. Always follow package instructions to avoid over-fertilizing.

Seasonal Care Calendar

Spring

  • Resume regular watering and fertilizing
  • Repot plants that have outgrown their containers
  • Prune dead or damaged leaves
  • Check for pests as weather warms

Summer

  • Water more frequently as needed
  • Protect from intense afternoon sun
  • Continue regular fertilizing schedule
  • Increase humidity if using air conditioning

Fall

  • Gradually reduce watering frequency
  • Stop or reduce fertilizing
  • Move plants away from cold windows
  • Clean leaves to maximize light absorption

Winter

  • Water sparingly—plants grow slower
  • Avoid cold drafts and heating vents
  • Monitor humidity levels indoors
  • Provide maximum available light

Common Plant Issues

Yellow Leaves

Often caused by overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient deficiency. Check soil moisture and adjust watering schedule accordingly.

Brown Leaf Tips

Usually indicates low humidity, underwatering, or salt buildup from fertilizer. Mist plants regularly or use a humidity tray.

Leggy Growth

Caused by insufficient light. Move your plant to a brighter location and rotate it regularly for even growth.

Wilting

Can be caused by either underwatering or overwatering. Check the soil moisture to determine which is the cause.
